Trexler Nature Preserve

Timetalbe for Grasslands restoration at Trex

I reached out to Wildlands Conservancy and they were able to provide an update on the "what and when" for the grasslands restoration. Here is what we have so far. Expect more in mid-September:
1) Game Commission is still on schedule and coordinating the actual work. They have had pre-bid meeting and they will select a contractor by the First week of September. The contractors need to be experienced in AO removal and working on the type of terrain.
2) Construction/AO demolition will begin this fall - we will know the exact date once the contractor is selected.

Trex Trail Maintenance Day ! Saturday, May 9th

We are going to organize a trail maintenance day for Saturday, May 9th.
Starting at 8 and ending at noon, so you can still ride.
We need some cut back work, as well as benchcutting and shale moving on the first leg of Broken Arrow and on Shaleface.
Post up here if you can make it, have tools or any questions.
Meet at the stables , North Range Entrance, Mill Creek Rd.
8am-noon

The Christmas lights.

We rode last night and to our surprise we heard music towards Broken Arrow. We dropped in and by the time we got to the log ride we stopped. The entire house and property across the street was lit up. I took a picture but it doesn't do it justice. The layout was huge and looked awesome from the ridge line.

Goats.

You may or may not know, but there are two goats in use somewhere along the D&L trail to keep invasive species to a minimum.

I just read an article about how elsewhere, some rail trail system is employing 50 goats to get rid of an invasive species of plant that has outnumbered the native plants.

I also just read that goats will readily eat autumn olive.

What's the worst that can happen with 50 goats running around at Trex Biggrin

Some Really Bad News Regarding Trex

From the County:

After further review of the new plans; consideration of our master site plan, site advisor, public and commissioner comments, LCCD comments and overall consideration of environmental impact of the existing and proposed Mt. bike trails , it has been firmly decided that any further expansion of the trails anywhere at TNP is not in the best interest of the Park as a nature preserve.
