So I was on my way to Arizona via Philadelphia when the baggage checker told me he needed to run my bag again. No problem, I made sure I had taken out my C02 cartridges and anything else that might not be ok to carry on the plane. He runs the bag again and then pulls me over to the side. "Sir, can I open your bag?" Sure, go right ahead...As he is opening my bag, it occurs to me that my multi-tool has a knife blade on it. Oh sh*t I tell him, I know what you you're looking for it's in the outside pocket. He pull\s out the tool and tells me he has to confiscate it.
Another baggage handler rushes over and looks at the tool. "So, are you a biker?" Yeah, I answer, "I'm an idiot, I forgot there was a knife blade on the tool." At this point I"m not expecting to be treated so well. Turns out the guy is a serious cyclist and goes out of his way to try and take the blade off my multi-tool so that I don't get it confiscated. He's able to take the blade off and give me my tool back. He does this all while proudly explaining what type of bike he rides and what he is currently building.
Just felt great to get hooked up by a fellow biker in a random situation. He went out of his way because we both like riding bikes. There truly is a really cool cycling community and I'm happy to be discovering it.
