Tour of Jim Thorpe

Hey guys and gals, I’m leading a tour of Jim Thorpe for a Cause.  I don’t post much on VMB, but this a cause near and dear to my heart.  As some of you know, I’m a cancer survivor.  I’m leading a group ride in Jim Thorpe with the hope of raising some funds for the American Cancer Society.

Here are the details:

Date:  Sunday May 30th

Time: Ride starts at 8:30  (The idea is Ride #1 8:30-12:00 Ride #2 12:00-3:30)

Where: Jim Thorpe…..Duh……Just kidding……Yeah yeah….Where in Thorpe right?......Route 93 first lot on the right at the trail head to the broad mtn loop.  (exact directions below)

Weather permitting of course.  (Will post here if weather cancels)

*Please let me know if you’re coming, I’d like to get a head count. (The more the merrier)*

The Ride:

Every skill level invited.  The ride will be broken into two parts.  A large group ride in the morning, and an advanced level ride in the afternoon.  We’ll start with the broad mtn loop and the deer path, and then in the afternoon we’ll do one of Jim Thorpe’s “Standard” trails.  Ride #1 is a mix of fire roads and single track with 1 mile of VERY technical single track about half way through.  Don’t be mistaken, this is still Jim Thorpe and any 3 hour ride can be tough.  Each loop is about 15-18 miles.  No one gets dropped in morning.  Ride #2 in the afternoon, starts at the exact same place as the first ride, so you’ll be back at your cars for food and water…....We’re gonna keep Ride #2 moving at a good pace, it’s more of an advanced level ride.  Bring plenty of water, tubes etc., please plan according to how long you’d like to ride.

A few other details:

Again, it is a ride for cancer awareness…….Donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.  $1, $5, or $100,000 anything would be great.  And if you’re low on dough, just come out and ride, it’s all about having fun.  My wife Allison has a Link to her personal page on the American cancer society website.  Here’s the link.

Copy and paste it to your browser if you’d like.

Also, Coffee and donuts will be waiting at 8 AM at the ride start point.  We know it’s a holiday weekend, that’s why we should be done part #1 by noon, so that you can get to that picnic or spend some time with the family.  And if you’ve got the strength and time, we’ll go all day.  And lastly, based upon how the crowd feels, we might throw in a part #3 a little bonus loop at the end.  We’ll just play that by ear.  Again, plan according to how long you’d like to ride.  If you want to go all day and night, let me know, and I’ll bring my lights…….There’s plenty of single track up there.

Exact directions to ride start point (from all points south of JT.):

Take Route 209 South into the town of Jim Thorpe.  Go all the way through town continuing to follow 209 for approx. 3 miles, then turn right on route 93 North.  Follow 93 about 2 miles around sharp bends and up hill to the top.  Just as you start to come down hill a bit there’s a dirt parking lot on the right.  That’s the starting point.  (Google map JT and you’ll be able to figure it out) (Use the hybrid option and you can zoom right in on that parking lot at the top of the mountain).

Thank you & see ya on the mountain,

Mike
