Now that VMB is back on track with a great new website, some great new members, some old, returning familiar faces, and a new president (Rich Butz!) it seems like a good time to take a very quick look back...
This club has already proven its worth on many levels, including: aiding those new to the sport find their way, helping veterans of the sport meet new people (who already seem like old friends) and keep it fresh, acquiring legal access for all MTBers to a new park (Walking Purchase, aka Salisbury) which has evolved into the premier local destination, and many other things too numerous to mention.
There are many people who deserve a big "thank you." Many members have contributed so much of themselves in a wide assortment of ways, but I wanted to say "thanks" to two people in particular:
1) Kris Kies. A guy who said a thousand times that he didn't have time to be president and yet managed to keep this club together through a transitional stage. Kris, thanks man.
2) Joe Transue. The guy people love to hate. Joe, man, if it wasn't for you none of this would have happened or be happening. We don't always see eye to eye, but it makes for an interesting and healthy relationship. Keep doing what you do best. You bring a skill set to this club we desperately need.
If all this just seems like more sap to the average visitor, I offer this:
Go to Walking Purchase Park. Ride the trails there. I can't offer any better proof of why this club is important and why you should be involved.
Thanks for reading.
