Area mountain bikers will be making an announcement next month concerning some very good news for area trails. A line of single-track is planned for the Trexler Nature Preserve, one of the hidden treasures of the Lehigh Valley. Most Lehigh Valley residents think of the Trexler Nature Preserve as the Lehigh Valley Zoo, but the area is much more expansive.
The preserve features a North Range, Central Range and South Range. The Central Range, which includes the Lehigh Valley Zoo, is the most well known part of the preserve, and bikers frequently tour through the area, enjoying the splashes they make while crossing the Jordan Creek Ford.
While bikers can easily negotiate the 8.5-mile perimeter of the facilities, there are more than 19 miles of trails that can be negotiated by foot or by bike, and there is plenty to see as well -- from breathtaking views atop the North Range, where you can see from the Delaware Water Gap to Hawk Mountain, to the wonderful flora and fauna that inhabit the land.
