Tracy Wilson is counting the days until Sept. 17.
That's the first day of the four-day visit by the International Mountain Biking Association Trail Care Crew that will help the local Valley Mountain Bikers club learn how to build trails to IMBA standards.
''We've got the kickoff party on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Allentown Brew Works, which will be like a pep rally,'' said Wilson, vice president of VMB.
The 100-plus member VMB is undertaking a two-year project to build beginner and intermediate trails through the Trexler Nature Preserve, connecting the North and Central ranges, and also is planning to put in trails at Nockamixon State Park with the Trexler Nature Preserve trails serving as the lead-in project.
''We're talking about a 10-mile loop at Trex within the next two years,'' Wilson said. ''Right now, we've got about three miles scratched in, but it's not really rideable. We need to get the organic matter off that trail and get it cleared. We are building strictly single track, although it will connect with the Lehigh County Parks fire road, which is double track, around the perimeter of the entire park.
