Warning: car thefts at SLB

Hi all,

Just wanted to share a mass email that we got at St. Luke's.
It would be useful knowledge to those that ride Sal's using the Dialysis lot and parking garage.
There have been in increasing number of car break-ins in the parking lots.
Below is the email we got from security.
Just an FYI.........

This is to alert everyone there is currently a trend of thefts from vehicles in the area, with several now also occurring on the St. Luke’s Bethlehem campus. The most popular stolen objects where iPods and GPS units left in plain view from outside the vehicle. We are increasing exterior security patrols, but are also asking everyone to be a little extra vigilant at this time. Please support our efforts by applying the following parking lot and vehicle security tips:

1. Keep objects of value out of view. When objects of value are observable from outside a vehicle, thieves have been resorting to forced entry. As mentioned above the most frequently stolen objects have been iPods and GPS devices. Other popular theft items include: laptop computers, purses, briefcases, cash, loose change, and music CDs. Items like these should be locked in the trunk if possible or at least removed from view.

2. Report suspicious activity. Be willing to report any suspicious activity, in the parking lots or anywhere on St. Luke’s property. Activities like people peering into car windows, teens hanging out or skateboarding in our parking lots should be reported to Security by dialing the Hospital Operator, or calling from a cell phone or emergency phone kiosk. It is recommended to program the Hospital’s main number in your cell phone: 610-954-4000, so you have the number handy to call from outside the Hospital if necessary.

3. Keep vehicles locked. Fountain Hill Police reports that perpetrators are often lifting vehicle door handles trying to see if a vehicle has been left unlocked. Unlocked vehicles have been entered even when nothing of value was left in view.
