A 43-year-old Birdsboro man was stabbed three times after he was surrounded by a group of teenage boys while riding his bicycle on the Thun Trail in Reading, police said Sunday.
The man, who police declined to identify, suffered three puncture wounds to his left shoulder in the Saturday night stabbing, investigators said. He was treated in Reading Hospital, police said.
Police said Sunday that they were looking for the attacker and members of the group of 15 to 20 boys who were on the trail between 11 p.m. and midnight Saturday.
According to police:
The victim and another cyclist were westbound on the trail near Reading Area Community College when they spotted a group of 15 to 20 middle school to high school age boys walking toward them.
The first cyclist, a 39-year-old man from Shillington, swerved by the group without incident, but the boys surrounded the second cyclist.
The boys hit the man on the side of the head with an unidentified object, causing him to black out and fall off his bicycle. One of the boys then stabbed the man in the shoulder three times with an unidentified object.
The man got away, and he and the other cyclist rode their bicycles to Reading Hospital. The man was treated for his wounds.
