Thank You, VMB

I would like to thank everyone for a great year as President of VMB in 2013. Smile We've accomplished several major things that have built on a solid foundation of work undertaken by prior Presidents, officers, and Boards over the last couple of decades.

We have in 2013:

1.) Successfully undertaken TWO enduros at Sals and Trex which have collectively raised nearly $6,000 for this club and raised our regional reputation. Even after paying for the much-needed Nox parking lot expansion, our treasury stands at a near-record level.

2.) Begun a Trex Easter ride and egg hunt for our club's children which will be continuing in 2014. Thanks, Karen K.! I know my one and two-year olds will appreciate that for years to come.

3.) Completely recovered from trail damage committed from more that two straight years of catastrophic storms that affected all of our trail systems.

4.) Began work on two new projects at River's Edge Bike Park in Delaware Water Gap under Jim D.'s supervision and at Manderfield Preserve in Trumbauersville/Sellersville under my own.

5.) Continued the TAKMBD tradition in October. As I said at the meeting tonight, this is more important to our future then we'll ever know.

6.) Doubled the size of the Tower Road parking lot at Nockamixon this past November with picnic tables to come.

7.) Continued to build relationships with various governmental and non-profit land owners on whose land the trails we ride are located throughout the region. We've got to do this non-stop indefinitely

8.) Any other important stuff I apologize for omitting by accident.

I couldn't have done my part in accomplishing all of this without the support of a great group of officers, Board members, and awesome volunteers within our club. They deserve recognition as well.

As I stated tonight at the meeting, a lot of mtb clubs have folded over the years across the U.S. for minor reasons while VMB continues on despite its own admitted challenges - please, let's allow our new officers and continuing Board to focus on expanding our opportunities as mountain bikers. We all know that there's a lot of promising developments and some good  ahead too.

You'll still see me around building trail, attending meetings, and whatever else it takes to keep mountain biking growing in our region. Stop and say "hi" if you're down at Nox and see me out there swinging ol' "megapick" the pick-axe (just stay out of the "circle of death" while I'm working.
