Tech question of the week - front derailer

looking for some help with my front shifter/derailer. A while back I had my bike in the shop to fix a bent dropout/rear derailer hanger. The mechanic took the liberty of "helping" me out by adjusting my front derailer/shifter so it wouldn't shift up to the big ring - I was running a rock ring at the time and didn't mind so much. I thought he simply adjusted one of the stop screws to prevent the up-shift so I never thought to ask exactly how he achieved this magical feet.

That frame eventually broke and all the parts are slowly making their way over to my commuter/frankenbike where I am currently running a big ring set-up. The shifter installed nicely with a new cable and housing and shifts very nice from granny to the middle ring but won't move into the big ring. I did not change out the derailer - just the shifter. The derailer did have big ring capablity prior to the shifter change. The old shifter was scram grip shift and the derailer is shimono deor. The "new" shifter is Scram x-9. I know that scram and shimono are not compatible for rear derailer but don't know about incompatilbites for the front.

The question - is there some adjustment possible on the shifter that could limit the move to the big ring? If so, please elaborate - what should I be looking for. Otherwise, any suggestions what may be preventing the upshift if it's not the limit screw adjustment?

thanks in advance
