Friends and colleagues of Patrick B. Ytsma are pleased to announce that the second annual Pat Ytsma Ride Safe Bike Tour will take place on June 2nd, 2013 beginning at 7 a.m. The tour was established in 2011 to honor Pat Ytsma of Bethlehem, who died after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle on the Fahy Bridge. The late Mr. Ytsma, who was tragically killed while riding his bicycle last year, was a lifelong advocate for cycling safety. His vigilance in obeying all posted signs, warnings, and traffic laws governing bicycles contributes to his legacy of awareness: through safety, understanding and advocacy, drivers and cyclists can learn to share the road.
20- and 40-mile tours through scenic Berks and Lehigh Counties will begin at 8:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., respectively. All rides will begin and end at Earl Adams Memorial Park in Breinigsville, PA. Registration will begin at 7 a.m., and all riders must return to the start/finish line by 1 p.m. Riders are encouraged to ride at their own pace and to stop at provided rest areas. Food, restrooms, first aid, and mechanical assistance will be available at these rest stops. Sag wagons and course maps will be provided to all riders. To further honor the legacy of safety that Pat believed in, all cyclists will be required to wear a helmet.
Participants can register online at PatYtsmaBikeTour.com until May 20th, 2013. The registration fee is $40. Participants are encouraged to raise pledges for the ride. The rider who raises the most pledges will be awarded a new Jamis Coda Comp Bicycle, provided by Bicycling Magazine. The second place fundraiser will receive a two-night stay at the Historic Times House Bed and Breakfast in Jim Thorpe, PA. All pre-registered riders will receive an official PYRSBT t-shirt.
There are many sponsorship opportunities available for individuals and corporate groups. Sponsors will receive their logo on the ride website and t-shirt, and some levels of sponsorship will be honored with branded mile-marker signs. All registration fees, pledges, and proceeds will be donated directly to a fund for the Ytsma children’s college education.
