Pisgah/Switchback Trail In Jeopardy in Jim Thorpe

VMB Peeps:

I urge you to take a minute to write Mr. Taggart an email concerning this. You could mention: The idea of outdoor, passive recreation and that this timing is particularly peculiar -- considering that entire country is currently beginning to understand the importance of accessibility to this very sort of trail; The need for more trails to promote physical fitness in children and adults, etc. -- or whatever you see fit to say. If you take your family to Jim Thorpe and enjoy the trail -- mention it!

Man, it was a real drag to just learn about this.

Thanks,
Doug

From the Jim Thorpe Trail Coalition:

The Switchback Gravity Railroad Foundation would like to reconstruct the mechanized railroad that historically existed on Mt. Pisgah in Jim Thorpe. This is currently the site of the Switchback hiking and biking trail.  They would like to start with a cog railway up the Pisgah Plane from the Sam Miller Field. This development would ruin the quiet hiking and biking atmosphere of Mt. Pisgah, destroy a well used community park, and create an influx of traffic into a residential neighborhood. The JTTC would like to recommend improvements to the Indian Path multi-use trail as an alternative. Please attend the meeting this Thursday at 6:30 at St. John's Church in Jim Thorpe noted above and voice your opposition to the railway plan, or send Mr. Taggart an email.

The Switchback Gravity Railroad Foundation will hold an Open House on  Thursday, June 10, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the St. John’s  Lutheran Church, 6th and North Street., Jim Thorpe, PA.  The purpose of  the meeting is to present the preliminary findings of the Foundation’s  Feasibility Study, outline the proposed next steps and receive public  comments. While there will not be a formal presentation, visual aids and  opportunities to ask questions of the consultant team will be  provided. For additional information, Contact Glenn M. Taggart at 610-882-1571 or glenn@taggartassociates.com
