Become a Bicycle Instructor

Why would you want to be a certified bicycle education instructor?

1. You will be a competent and confident teacher of bicycling to children, teenagers and adults.
2. You will enjoy $1,000,000 liability insurance coverage while educating cyclists.
3. You will be eligible to work for CAT at $20/hour as a teacher, administrator, data collector, mechanic or other LCI qualified positions

Here's what you would have to do to become an LCI through the CAT program:

1. Be a member of CAT ($25/year)

2. Pass Road One ($40/test is free to LWA ride leaders, Valley Mountain Biker Patrol Leaders & enforcement officers in Lehigh & Northampton Counties, Pennsylvania) Testing takes place on the fourth Saturday of every month from Noon to 4 PM. The full 9-hour Road One course is available for those who want to take any part of it on the first three Saturdays of every month in the morning. Call the CAT office for details and more information.

3. Join the League of American Bicyclists ($35/year)

4. Attend & pass the 3-day LCI Seminar ($200 fee)

If you decide you would like to become an LCI, please go to the seminar schedule page on the League website:
http://bikeleague.org/cogs/programs/education/seminar_schedule
and find the Bethlehem LCI Seminar to be held June 18, 19 & 20th.

Send the site coordinator Steve Schmitt an email indicating your intention to participate.

You then have three choices of method to sign up and pay your fee for the seminar itself:

ONLINE:
Click on the Seminar Signup link on the seminar schedule page. If you are not a League Member, you will have to join the league at this point paying the $35 fee by credit card, then proceed to the sign-up page and fill it out including paying your seminar fee ($200) by credit card.

BY MAIL:
Scroll to the bottom of the seminar schedule page and download the Seminar application .pdf file. Print it out and include your check or credit card information when mailing to the League.

BY PHONE:
Call the League, 1-202-822-1333, and register for the Seminar over the phone. You may pay both your League Membership fee and the Seminar fee by credit card.

Please sign up for the Seminar as soon as possible if you plan to attend so that you have the pre-test and study materials far in advance of the Seminar.
