At a time when two-wheeled transportation is rapidly growing in popularity among Portlanders, the deaths of two bicyclists in October have put a new focus on conflicts between cars and bikes. The Oregonian staff hit the streets last week to document how cyclists and motorists are managing the daily commute — and what they can do to avoid collisions.

Where cars and bikes collide
There were about 700 bicycle crashes at Portland intersections from 2003 to 2006, Oregon Department of Transportation data show. The map below shows intersections with two or more bike crashes and those with one or more fatalities.
